Pursuant to the Decree of the Government of 29.12.1994 and the Decree of the Minister of the Environment of 29.05.1995, the Radiation Protection Centre was established on 1st January 1996.

Since 1st February 2009 in the course of reorganization, the Estonian Radiation Protection Centre was merged with the Environmental Board as a Radiation Safety Department.
